Have you ever wondered why a knife makes a good present? Knives are a very important part of our lives. We use knives everyday and don't even give them a thought, and this is the way it should be. They are used to help prepare our meals, eat our meals, to cut string or rope, to carve material into usable shapes or create things of beauty. Some even use a knife to whittle on a stick like some use worry beads.
A knife should feel comfortable and function as an extension of your hand. These knives come in all kinds of styles: pocket knives, folding knives, fixed blade knives, hunting knives, collectable knives and novelty knives. There is a knife to fit almost any need that you can imagine. Some are designed to clean fish, to clean game, to enhance survival or assist in rescues and yes even in self-defense. Most knives can and do perform many tasks, however, using a knife that has been designed to perform a specific task is a joy to own and use.
Although knives are utilitarian in function, it can also be an object of beauty and there is a pride of ownership in a well crafted, nicely decorated with an exotic handle material, engravings that rivals the greatest works of art, hand tooled leather sheathes and a blade that is polished to a mirror like finish.

POCKET
KNIVES
A pocket knife is designed to be small and un-intrusive. Typically carried in a pocket or purse for convenience and easy access. These knives are usually less than 4 inches in closed-length and light-weight (usually under 5 oz.). Another characteristic is that they tend to have a number of blades for performing different tasks. These tasks can range from whittling, opening packages, simple camp chores to finger nail trimming. Some, like the Swiss Army Knives, can have many blades for even more tasks such as a metal saw, wood saw, screw drivers, awls and punches, etc. They also come in single and dual blade configuration.
Here at High Caliber Knives we offer a vast range of these styles. They range from everyday usage to survival/rescue knives. FOLDING KNIVES
A folding knife is usually a single blade knife that has a longer closed length (>4 inches) and tends to be heavier (>5 oz.) than a pocket knife. They may be carried in a belt sheath, a belt clip or even in a pocket or purse. The method is up to the individual user, but be aware that many jurisdictions will consider any knife with a knife blade greater than 3 inches a concealed weapon if carried in a pocket or purse (basically means that if it can not be readily seen then it is concealed), check your local ordinances for their requirements.
These knives also tend to be more rugged in their construction with a positive lock for the blade in the open position. A single blade is the norm for these knives but there are some that have multiple blades. They range from everyday types to hunting and fishing to survival and rescue knives.
