ABOUT US

This web site has been created by a hunter and angler for hunters and anglers. Being an ardent hunter and angler for many years, I realize the need for quality equipment. We have all bought and used inferior knives for camping, hunting and angling chores. This has been primarily due to a lack of knowledge or money. As time passed and my knowledge and wallet expanded, I was able to buy higher quality knives that were better suited to the intended tasks. Due to this acquired experience, I decided to open this web site to offer good quality knives at reasonable prices.

It is our intention to offer high caliber knives at the lowest price. With that in mind, if you find the same knife offered at a lower price on the internet, E-mail us with that web sites address along with the knife's manufacturer name and model number we will either match that price, or encourage you to buy the knife from there.

To assist you in your selection of a knife, especially if you are a novice, we have included some information to assist you in your selection of a knife. You can review this information at 4 STEPS TO BUYING THE RIGHT KNIFE

Benchmade Knives

ABOUT BENCHMADE KNIVES

THE MINDSET
It all starts with a commitment to innovation. And for us, it goes beyond simply being innovatively different — Benchmade continually strives to be innovatively better. We believe that when a customer chooses to purchase a Benchmade, they don't do so just to be different, they do so because they want the best. This mindset of innovating for improvement is alive and well throughout Benchmade, it goes into every design, and comes out of every product. Admittedly, it's definitely not the easiest way to make knives, but it's the only way we know how.

ENGINEERING
Rocket science? Ok, well almost. It all starts with a dedicated Engineering department hell bent on getting it right — before a milling machine ever starts. It means taking an often times custom design concept and unique designer personality, and then translating it into computer renderings and programs for a multitude of individual manufacturing processes. Our engineers are continually checking and rechecking for perfection, and we are fully integrated with our outside manufacturing partners to ensure our Benchmade quality standards are adhered to. From the latest computer aided design (CAD) software and 3–D modeling technologies to just plain knife-know-how gained from years of experience, it's a test of wills. And when the final prototype is signed off on, the customer always wins.

MANUFACTURING
The Benchmade manufacturing arsenal contains ultra-modern laser cutters and machining centers dialed in for spot–on tolerances of 0.0005” on command. Our computerized machining centers offer the precision and control usually found only in the aerospace industry. Most of our products are hand assembled for a “go together” fit and finish typically seen only in a custom knife. But it's more than just having modern equipment, for Benchmade, it's having a workforce of dedicated and professionally skilled people knowing how to make it all work together. We also work with a specially select group of outside manufacturing partners, who are willing to go beyond working for us — they work with us to deliver the best product regardless of price point. It's a lot of effort for just a knife, which is why Benchmade knives aren't “just a knife” — they're engineered cutting tools founded on function, built for performance and recognized for both.

Boker Knives

ABOUT BOKER KNIVES

A giant chestnut tree, shading the small Boeker tool factory in Remscheid in the 17th century, is the oldest traceable symbol connected with the Boeker name. Apparently, Boeker tools were very successful, since they were among the leading products in Germany and neighboring countries 100 years later.

Due to the increasing demand in a restless political era, Hermann and Robert Boeker decided in 1829 to begin with the production of sabers. As early as September 1830, the accounting records indicate a weekly production of 2,000 items, made by 64 smiths, 47 grinders and a large number of unskilled laborers. In view of the constantly increasing variety of tools and cutting instruments and the good opportunities for worldwide sales, the family realized that the individual steps in the manufacturing process had to be spread out for optimal realization of its interests. As a result, Hermann Boeker emigrated and founded H. Boeker & Co. in New York. Young Robert developed his enterprise in Canada, founding a branch in Mexico later in 1865. This branch is still a market leader in its country under the name of Casa Boeker.

Heinrich crossed the nearby Wupper river and went to Solingen, where the German industry of cutting tools was growing by leaps and bounds at that time. In 1869, he founded Heinr. Boeker & Co. with Hermann Heuser, a well-known specialist in the field of cutting tools. The Boeker family in Remscheid and their overseas cousins had a lot of interest in and a great demand for shaving blades, scissors and pocket knives from Heinrich's new enterprise. They had to identify their products for the overseas markets in a simple way, since many customers and consumers had problems with the German name Boeker. Not considering the fact that illiteracy was widely spread. In Heinrich's opinion, the chestnut tree near the Remscheid facility represented an ideal, easy-to-remember symbol. This brand symbol was owned by the Remscheid company, together with a second logo, the arrow. One of the few valuable documents that survived the total destruction of WWII is an ad by Boeker, Remscheid, from the year 1874, showing both logos.

The relationship between the two Boeker companies had always been extremely friendly. Therefore, Heinrich was allowed to take the tree symbol across the river with him, without any big fight or cost. Since then, not a single Boeker article has left the Solingen factory without being identified by the tree symbol. After more than 100 years of existence the old chestnut tree was the victim of lightening. In 1925 a talented artist carved a copy of the majestic tree on a piece of the trunk. This original piece of art decorates the boss' office in the Boeker plant.

As early as 1900, the majority of articles produced by Boeker were distributed in the US market. H. Boker & Co. in New York concentrated primarily on cutting tools from Solingen. Soon pocket knives became more important than scissors, shaving blades and eating utensils. The demand increased even more rapidly than Solingen was able to supply, so that the Americans in New York began their own production of pocket knives. A little later, pliers were included as well. Since the tree symbol had become well known by then and the various branches of the international Boeker family enjoyed an excellent relationship among each other, it was not difficult to receive permission from the Solingenrelatives to use the tree symbol also for the American products. Since that time, two different lines of Boeker knives have been on the American market with the same brand symbol, sometimes even with the same article numbers, but one line was made in the USA and the other in Solingen. Only the declaration of marketability clarified that one line was from Boker and the other from H. Boker Improved Cutlery Solingen. The relationship was interrupted during WWII. The Solingen factory burned down completely. None of the equipment, tools, catalog materials or samples was spared. Those few originals from the past we have today survived the war in private homes and were made available to the company. The firm lost one of its most valuable assets: the registration of the tree symbol for the American market was confiscated pursuant to American law. John Boker Jr. acquired it in , in order to secure it for the distribution of the American and German products. Soon after the war, the destroyed factory was rebuilt. Those loyal skilled workers who had survived the war, returned and helped with the reconstruction of the building as well as the production, gradually regaining the previous high standard of quality.

The American cousins renewed their business contact with Solingen and started to place orders. Within a few years Boker, New York, had again become the principal customer. Models like the 7588 and 7474 and the most expensive item, the sports knife "Flagship Model 182" could not cross the ocean fast enough to reach Böker friends all over the country.

In the early 60s, Boker USA was sold and eventually acquired by the well-known scissors manufacturer Wiss & Sons. Wiss retained the manufacture of Boeker knives and sold them together with Solingen products. Of course, this meant that the Boeker scissors ceased to be competitors of the Wiss line in the American market. In the early 70's, Wiss sold to Cooper Industries, a multinational company. This new change in America proved to be advantageous for Boker.

A very close business, as well as personal relationship developed with this industrial giant. Due to its strength on the market, Cooper was able to restore the original magnitude of the Boeker name. Thanks to the very lively business activities with Cooper for eight years, the Solingen facility could streamline its production and develop new, modern products. Without exaggeration, Boker manufactures the largest assortment of high-quality knives for sportsmen and collectors with an unsurpassed variety of materials for blades and handles. Today, Boeker knives range from 320-layer Damascus steel to very modern ceramics, with handles ranging from high-quality mother-of-pearl to Thuya root wood and state-of-the-art synthetics...

In 1983 Cooper discontinued its own knife production. Models still in demand are being manufactured in Solingen today. As a result of friendly negotiations, Cooper restored the American trademark rights three years later, providing Solingen with the opportunity to become self-reliant in the huge American market. Thus, in 1986, Boker USA, Inc. was created in Denver, Colorado. Chuck Hoffman, the man who was involved with the company then, is still active as CEO today, working with a young, energetic team.

The great importance of Boeker in the South American markets (Argentina and Chile) and in Mexico is due to the efficient men of the Boeker family, who were active for us in these countries in the 19th and 20th centuries. Today's trademark includes the terms TREEBRAND and ARBOLITO. Since the Argentinian market in particular is subject to extreme economic and political fluctuations, the good name ARBOLITO was in danger of being forgotten. In 1983, Boeker Arbolito S. A. was founded jointly with the Salzmann family primarily to manufacture household and work knives in Argentina. Thanks to the constant modernization and expansion of product lines the company in Buenos Aires is able to compete worldwide with selected products today.

Buck Knives

ABOUT BUCK KNIVES

Buck Knives are arguably the most famous American-made knives, known and respected worldwide for their high quality, for blades that hold an edge, and for the Lifetime Guarantee that backs them up.

Buck Knives is a strong corporate entity, with a manufacturing facility covering 4.5 acres under one roof in El Cajon, California, just east of San Diego. But when the first Buck hunting knife was made in 1902, it was a young Kansas blacksmith apprentice named Hoyt Buck who used his imagination to find a new, better way to temper steel so it would hold an edge much longer.

Hoyt made each knife by hand, using worn-out file blades as his raw material. During World War II, he made as many as he could to help America's war effort. After the war, he moved to San Diego, where he and his oldest son, Al, formed H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al carried on when Hoyt died in 1949 and led the company through the next critical years in its history.

Buck was still making knives from discarded file blades until 1961, when the firm was incorporated. In 1963, Al Buck designed the Model 110 Folding Hunter, and when it was brought to the market in 1964; this lockblade literally revolutionized the wholesale knife industry. It propelled the Buck brand name to a position of prominence, establishing a leadership role it has never relinquished.

Today, the fast-growing company is headed by the third and fourth generations of this famous knife-making family: Chuck Buck, Chairman of the Board; and his son, CJ Buck, President and CEO. Under their guidance, the company's standard of excellence in quality and craftsmanship remains strong. They continue to emphasize product development as integral to the progress of the company and serving the needs of its customers.

Buck knives are designed for all types of users-whether they are hunters or fishermen, hikers or campers, military or law enforcement, knife collectors, workers on the job, or people doing everyday tasks. The company's mission focuses on product quality, product development and commitment to its dealers and customers.

Cold Steel Knives

ABOUT COLD STEEL KNIVES

What a great name for a knife maker! This California-based cutlery house has a reputation for tough, sharp knives.

Cold Steel Knives makes very high quality products. When Cold Steel knives first came on the knife manufacturing scene they ran several tests (as required by one of the knife maker guilds) on their knives to prove their effectiveness. Then they ran the identical tests on their competitors knives.

The competitions knives failed miserably under the same rigorous tests. These results were advertised in major knife community journals and it caused quite a stir among their competitors. The neck knife, original Tanto, Trailmaster bowie, and Master hunter were some of the Cold Steel knives that were tested.

We feel you will be pleased with any Cold Steel knife you may choose.

Columbia River Knives

ABOUT COLUMBIA RIVER KNIVES

FOR THOSE WHO SERVE:

Special knives designed for use by military, law enforcement, fire fighting and other emergency services professionals.

Columbia River knives have been the equipment of choice for military and law enforcement operators worldwide, as seen on a recent cover of Time Magazine. Space, weight, quality and value are major issues to these professionals, and they have chosen gear they trust to get the job done. CRKT is proud of the quality and affordability of our product. Our industry-leading designers have years of military and tactical experience, which translates into knives designed to do specific jobs, covering the full range of professional needs.

CRKT SPORT & WORK KNIVES BY FAMILY:
Columbia River Knives Sport and Work Knives have been designed by some of the finest knife designers in the business: Kit Carson, Aaron Frederick, Ed Halligan, Ed Van Hoy, Allen Elishewitz, Barry Gallagher, Russ Kommer and more.

LAKE AND KNIFE SAFETY (LAWKS®):
The locking liner style of folder lock has many advantages: it is lightweight, reliable, strong and easy to open and close with one hand. However, there is the very slight possibility that twisting or torquing the knife with a firm grip may accidentally release the locking liner.

In 2000, we began to incorporate the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®), designed by noted Knifemakers’ Guild members Ron Lake and Michael Walker, into our newer locking liner folders. When the LAWKS® lever is pushed forward with a flick of the thumb, the knife becomes a virtual fixed blade, and the locking liner is virtually impossible to release by the most vigorous use until the LAWKS® lever is retracted.

Even though LAWKS® increased our engineering and manufacturing costs significantly, we believe that the superior security and safety it offers is worth it to our customers. Today, CRKT locking liner folders designed for heavy-duty work and tactical use come with LAWKS® as standard equipment.

As good as LAWKS® is, our military and law enforcement consultants pointed out that an operator may not have time to think about actuating the LAWKS® lever during a sudden tactical event.

Our new patented and exclusive AutoLAWKS® answers that question: it automatically actuates when an AutoLAWKS®-equipped folder is opened and locked, creating a virtual fixed blade instantly. A powerful spring inside the handle forces the AutoLAWKS cam forward, and a metal bar prevents the locking liner from releasing accidentally.

One-hand closing is still easy. Just pull the AutoLAWKS® lever back with the index finger and press in the locking liner with the thumb. The blade will release and can be closed with gentle pressure of the index finger while you rotate the handle in the palm of your hand.

Overall, we believe that AutoLAWKS® is the most advanced knife safety improvement of its kind, and we are proud to introduce it on many CRKT locking liner folders.

DMT Sharpeners and Hones

DMT - DIAMOND MACHINING TECHNOLOGY, INC

DMT ADVANTAGE

DIAMOND MACHINING TECHNOLOGY - THE BENCHMARK FOR DIAMOND SHARPENERS

For over thirty years, DMT® has been the leader in, and innovator of, a full range of diamond sharpening products that are dependable and solve a multitude of sharpening, honing or deburring needs. DMT®'s patented and award-winning products are known for their superior quality and versatility, are easy to use and allow for sharpening in a fraction of the time required by other methods. DMT® products are popular with woodworkers, chefs and gardeners, in the kitchen, workshop or tool room, or to take camping, hiking, skiing, hunting and fishing.

WHY DMT DIAMOND?

DMT® Diamond Sharpeners are an excellent value because of their durable construction, quality and reputation for providing years of uncompromising service. Unlike conventional oilstones, Japanese waterstones, Arkansas stones and other ceramic sharpeners, DMT® Diamond Whetstones ™ will not break, chip, crack, hollow or groove. Do not be fooled by other diamond sharpeners made in other countries who claim their products are just as good - If you want the best care for your edge, demand DMT®!

  • FAST- Hardest material, most efficient sharpening abrasive. Available in unique interrupted surface and continuous surface.
  • EASY- Light pressure produces a sharp edge with just a few strokes.
  • CLEAN- Use water for lubrication - no oil, smell or mess.
  • VERSATILE- Hones ALL hard materials: carbide, steel, etc.
  • DURABLE- Starts flat, stays flat.

DMT® Diamond Whetstones™ are renown for their remarkable sharpening speed. The sharpening speed of DMT® products is a function of the quality of the micronized super abrasive, monocrystalline Diamond.

MONOCRYSTALLINE Diamond (a strong, single crystal)

Uniform and precisely sized Monocrystalline Diamond is permanently bonded to nickel on a precision ground plate. Approximately two thirds of each crystal is embedded in the nickel with one third exposed. Because Diamonds are the hardest material known, the working abrasive points (top third of the diamond) will wear very slowly to give a long product life. Extremely pure, DMT® diamond crystals permit a single layer of diamond to perform for years. Competitors claims of multiple layers of diamond only indicate poor quality diamond that quickly wears.

POLYCRYSTALLINE Diamond

Our competition uses this fragmented compound that breaks apart and wears away easily with use. Sharpeners made with Polycrystalline Diamond will wear out and need replacement.

EASY CARE & USAGE

Your DMT® Diamond Whetstone™ is a precision tool. When used with reasonable care, it will give you many years of faithful service.

  1. Break-in period: Initially your diamond stone will seem especially rough. It will smooth over time with gentle stroking without impacting performance. You need not exert extra pressure - let the diamonds do the work!
  2. Use only light pressure when sharpening. As a rule, 5-10 minutes on a conventional oilstone is equal to about 20 seconds on DMT® Diamond Sharpeners.
  3. Use only water as a lubricant. A lubricant is only necessary to speed the process of clearing swarf (material removed during sharpening) into the recessed dots.
  4. After use, rinse and dry your diamond sharpener. Store dry. When further cleaning is needed, use an abrasive cleaner (non-petroleum base) and a scrub brush. Always store your diamond sharpener clean and dry or the metal fines removed during sharpening will rust if left on the surface.

DMT WARRANTY

The DMT® Commitment - For over a quarter century, DMT® has been committed to one thing - to innovate and produce the world's finest diamond knife and tool sharpeners. All DMT® products are made using the highest quality materials and workmanship and are guaranteed to be free of defects. Any products found to be defective will be replaced free of charge - it's that simple!

DMT SURFACES

DMT® offers a full product line of sharpeners with a variety of surface composition. Some products are tailored in shape and size for specific sharpening needs. The interrupted and continuous surfaces are layered in micronized Monocrystalline diamond embedded in nickel, a DMT® proprietary process. Diamond as we know it, is the hardest substance and can sharpen or hone any material (more on this). Our new line of unbreakable ceramic sharpeners are best used for putting a polished edge on a tool after it has been sharpened by a more coarse diamond grit.

When compared with conventional sharpening stones, all DMT® products work faster and sharpen exceedingly quick using light pressure.. and they remain flat! It is important to note that all DMT® diamond products are manufactured to the same high standard using the same high-quality monocrystalline diamond that makes sharpening with DMT® superior. Therefore the difference between the two diamond product lines becomes a matter of preference to the user. Read further to learn more about the differences between the surfaces and which DMT® products are right for you.

INTERRUPTED DIAMOND SURFACES

These products carry our signature polka-dot pattern surfaces. The polka dots are slightly recessed so that during sharpening the metal fines (known as swarf) and small amount of material that is being removed will fall into the polka dots and remain out of the way of the sharpening surface keeping the sharpening surface performing.

CONTINUOUS DIAMOND SURFACES

Continuous diamond surface sharpeners are preferred when sharpening small-pointed tools and can be used for knife and tool sharpening, honing and deburring as well. On an interrupted surface the point of a small tool may get caught in a recess and damage the surface of the sharpener. DMT® therefore recommends that you use a continuous diamond or ceramic surface for these types of tools.

UNBREAKABLE CERAMIC SURFACES

*NEW* UNBREAKABLE Ceramic! Our new Ceramic and Ceramic Diamond SHARPENERS are our latest innovation and are the perfect compliment to your assortment of sharpening tools. The patented CeraFuse™ process transfoms the surface of aluminum to an extremely hard dense aluminum oxide that has the same properties of solid ceramic materials. With a finer grit than our bonded diamond products, they are unbreakable, wear resistant, light and non-porous. Our ceramic sharpeners are the next step to achieving a polished edge.

Gerber Knives

ABOUT GERBER KNIVES

Savvy. Ingenuity. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to our emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. But then there's the issue of toughness. And frankly, nothing could be tougher than living down the first career of founder Joseph Gerber as...that's right...an advertising man. You could call it the “Boy Named Sue” syndrome. And live it down we have.

Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910. One Christmas, he hired a local knifemaker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.

It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand. One that commands respect among knifelovers and knifemakers alike. And now that high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products. Such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and backpack hydration.

With a history like ours-and products like these, it's no wonder we're completely unafraid of the future.

Lansky Sharpeners

ABOUT ABOUT LANSKY SHARPENERS

In 1979, a young man in the cutlery trade who also ran a sporting goods store, harnessed the secrets of the professional knife sharpeners and developed a system that, for the first time, enabled the average person to properly sharpen a knife quickly, easily and safely. He knew that the real secret to proper knife care is maintaining a good bevel and the right sharpening angle on each knife at all times so it is always ready for the kind of tasks it was designed to perform. That's when Arthur Lansky LeVine, founder and president of Lansky Sharpeners®, created, patented and marketed his first Controlled-Angle Knife Sharpening System.

At the heart of the original Lansky Sharpening System was an ambidextrous knife clamp made of aircraft aluminum which had two banks of pre-drilled holes that acted as guides for the sharpening hones. Once the knife is attached to the clamp, the user can bevel or sharpen both sides of a blade to the same, precise angles. The system proved to be so well made, so easy to use and produced such superior results for people with little previous knife sharpening know-how or experience that they have become a standard throughout the world.

In addition to creating a broader line of Controlled-Angle Sharpening Systems during the 1980s, Lansky also developed a number of accessory products, like mounts for the sharpening system, specialty sharpeners such as those for sharpening serrated blades, and unique pocket sharpeners such as the Mini-Sharpener and Dog Bone Sharpener. Next came a series of pocket-sized sharpeners, including specialized serrated blade sharpeners that work to sharpen the proprietary serrations used on the blades of some of the major knife manufacturers. Before Lansky developed its series of serrated blade sharpeners, these blades could not be sharpened by traditional means.

In 1991, Lansky Sharpeners acquired the Crock Stick® brand, together with its full line of ceramic rod sharpeners, many of which incorporated a two-stage sharpening system that is a variant of the Lansky Controlled-Angle Sharpening System.

Lansky's search for new ways to do a better sharpening job then led to the development of a series of tool sharpeners that sharpen axes, hatchets, lawnmower blades and even shovels, hoes, machetes and scythes. Always on the lookout for innovation through new technologies, Lansky first introduced the tungsten-carbide Easy-Grip sharpener in the early 1990s, and then followed it up with the Deluxe Easy Grip in 2004 and the Quick Fix, a small, pocket-sized sharpener featuring tungsten carbide sharpening rods on one side and ceramic sharpening rods on the other.

As the Lansky firm celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2004, it launched a whole new line of sharpeners featuring diamond sharpening rods, folding diamond paddles, diamond pads and diamond benchstones. Lansky now offers the most complete selection of knife and tool sharpeners.

Each year, new and improved products have been introduced, each with the purpose of fulfilling a specific task, making other tasks easier, or enabling the customer to use edged products more conveniently and comfortably with greater safety, and to store them at home or carry them on trips. This year, as in previous years, Lansky will be introducing new and improved knife and tool sharpening products at major trade shows around the world.

Almost from the start-up date of Lansky Sharpeners, the company has aggressively pursued national and international advertising programs and marketing & distribution practices designed to place the Lansky product line before the widest range of consumers. The result is that Lansky Sharpeners have become the name most recognized and accepted by consumers worldwide.

When asked about the company's devotion to quality, Tim simply replies, “My name is on every tool.” Although he no longer spends much time on the manufacturing floor, Tim is known for wearing his signature red shop apron every day to show his willingness to pitch in wherever needed. LONE WOLF KNIVES

ABOUT LONE WOLF KNIVES

Lone Wolf Knives® was founded with the goal of producing the finest semi-custom knives available anywhere in the world today.

Working closely with some of the very best custom knife makers in the world, Lone Wolf Knives has developed some very exciting semi-custom knives. They are sure to please a wide variety of knife enthusiasts. Lone Wolf knives are created using high-grade steels, natural & manmade handle materials and just the right blend of modern equipment and old-world craftsmanship. The end result is a knife that its owner can be proud of. Our knives are both beautiful & functional and will provide their owners with a lifetime of enjoyable service.

Like all Lone Wolf automatics, we believe that a “double-action” is safer and friendlier to use than just a plain ldquo;single-action” automatic. The double action feature allows the knife to be opened one-handed either manually using your thumb, or automatically by releasing a hidden trigger mechanism. With a single action knife you must rely solely on the button to activate the blade. If the button were to get jammed with dirt, sand or even pocket lint, the blade may not be able to be opened until its thoroughly cleaned. With a double-action knife the blade can always be opened manually, even if the mechanism gets jammed up. More than several soldiers have told us this subtle feature was useful while in the field! Currently, all of Lone Wolf's automatics have hidden release triggers that make them easy to carry under all types of circumstances.

Lone Wolf's other tactical oriented line of folders, including the Harsey designed knives; the U.S.45 folder and the new Paul® Prankster are also geared for every-day carry and heavy duty use. The Harsey folders feature blades of the new CPM-S30V steel, providing incredible long cutting action. Many hunters have praised this blade material for its toughness and blade edge retention. Lone Wolf Knives, in conjunction with Paul W. Poehlmann, is introducing a new folder for 2007 called the Prankster. This new knife features a pocket clip and is ideal for day to day chores.

Rapala Fillet Knives

ABOUT RAPALA KNIVES

Preferred by Anglers worldwide.

Fillets and fishing chores are quick and simple with Rapala's dependable line of fillet and sport knives. Rapala Fillet Knives were inspired by the shape and flexibility of knives cherished by commercial fishermen.

It all began with a hungry Finnish guy and a carving knife. It was the 930's when a simple fisherman made an observation of simple genius: Big fish eat little fish, especially little fish that are wounded. So begins the greatest fishing story ever told. As Lauri Rapala fished the waters of Finland's Lake Paijanne, he quietly rowed and watched. And what he saw was how hungry predator fish would dart into a school of minnows and attack the one that swam with a slightly off-center wobble. Over and over again...

Rapala History

Lauri realized that if he could craft a lure that mimicked the movements of a wounded minnow, he could catch more fish, earn more money, and not spend time constantly baiting lines. So Lauri set to work. He whittled. Carved. And shaved. Eventually a lure began to take shape. Using a shoemaker's knife and some sandpaper, he created his first successful lure from cork in 1936. Tinfoil from chocolate bars formed the lure's outer surface. Melted photographic negatives the protective coating. But most importantly, it perfectly imitated the action of a wounded minnow. Legend has it that Lauri sometimes caught 600 pounds of fish a day with that new lure. And as word of his abundant catches spread, the lure's reputation grew. The rest, as they say, is history. That first lure was the forefather to the lure that has helped more fishermen experience the thrill of more big fish than any other: the legendary Original Floating™ Rapala.

The wiggle fish can't resist. As fishermen around the world began to catch more and bigger fish with Rapala's lure, it became clear that what triggered them was the lure's tantalizing wiggle and wobble. Because even though fish throughout the world were different, predators and baitfish always acted true to form. Big fish hammers wounded little fish. That's why Lauri tested each lure to make sure it swam true to the unique “wounded-minnow action.” It wasn't the fastest way to make a fishing lure. But it was the only way to make a Rapala. (To this day, Rapala lures are hand-tuned and tank-tested to swim perfectly right out of the box.) It's an action as distinct to a Rapala as a fingerprint is to a person. An action no other company has been able to duplicate.

And so with every unforgettable trip of a lifetime, every successful Saturday afternoon with a kid at the local fishing hole, the Rapala legend grew. And a deep-seated trust began to form between anglers and Rapala. Weekenders became hardcore. Dads became heroes. And more and more fishermen began reaching for Rapala again and again.

A good day fishing. The undisputed mother of invention. For millions, success could be measured by the growing number of trophy fish caught on Rapala lures. (To this day, no other lure holds more world records.) And because we at Rapala are fishermen first, we know not only what our fellow fishermen need, but wh
